Padlocks
Safety padlocks — also called lockout padlocks — secure energy-isolation points during maintenance so equipment cannot be switched on. All of ours are key retaining: the key cannot be withdrawn while the padlock is open, so a lock never gets left hanging on a hasp with the key in someone’s pocket. Held in stock in New Zealand for fast dispatch.
Choose your keying
Every padlock here is available three ways. Pick on the collection or product page:
- Keyed different (standard, in stock) — every padlock has its own unique key. The correct default for personal lockout: your key opens only your lock, so nobody can release your isolation.
- Keyed alike (made to order, about one week) — a set that all open with one key. For the person who routinely locks several points on the same job. Adding to an existing set? Put your key code in the order notes.
- Master keyed (quoted) — individual keys plus a supervisor override, for the case where someone leaves site with their key still in their pocket.
Most sites end up with a mix. It is far cheaper to plan the scheme once than to re-key later — talk to us and we will work it through with you.
Colours, and why they matter
Colour is how a site tells isolations apart at a glance — one colour per trade, per department, per shift, or per contractor — so a supervisor can read a hasp without asking whose lock is whose.
